At 4:30 this evening, We, the D'Angelo family, set off toward Holmdel, New Jersey. It took us 2 hours to get there, only slightly almost getting lost.On the way, TOmmy Conwell from WYSP calls my dad on his cell, and says he wants to interview me for Lound n Local which is on sunday nights from 10-11pm. So i do the 5 minutes interview, and i'm so siked!
When we arrived we went to the box office to get our VIP passes and tickets. My dad called Aaron Dilks(tour manager for journey, also managed the tours of Marylin Manson, Aerosmith, etc.)He told us to go to the VIP section and go around back to where the tour buses were. At this point i'm freakin out, cause its so surreal, but i keep my composure ;). So we go behind the black tour bus with the black trailor behind it, and see a large white trailer, and thats where Aaron is. My dad knocks on the door, they shake hands, and we enter the trailer. He asks us if we had dinner yet, introduces us to his partner, and lets him lead us to the VIP catering area. We walk around to it, and see a variety of foods layed out. We grab plates and begin putting food like mashed potatoes, fruit, pork chops and other stuff. SO GOOD.
Aaron and his partner sit down together behind us, and we start talking about all kinds of things. I look back and i see some guy with jet black hair with his son, talking about how he got drum sticks from dean. Later we are told he's the A&R guy for Fender, and that he could get us anything we wanted for free! woooo! We also see Dean Castronova(drummer). Then Aarons' "brother from another mother" comes in. He has been the programmer for Prince, Tommy Lee, and Sevendust, etc.
So Aaron offers to take us backstage! I take alot of pics, and he describes what goes into setting up, and the take down for the show. Its an amazing view, being on the stage, and looking at all the people piling in, looking at you, and wondering who you are, cause your on stage. After that, we go to the other side of the stage. and get more pics, one with a random sound guy..Then we go back to the VIP section, then outside, and Aaron takes us inside an ACTUALY TOUR BUS. His and Neil Schons(guitarist). ITS SO MUCH COOLER THEN WHEN U SEE IT ON TV!!!! Its sooo nice inside! we take more pics.
Aaron tells my dad about how and what he wants to do as far as managing us.(thats the main reason we are here)He says, ultimately, we will record a record, and TOUR. i'm like...YESSSS!!!! So after that, we go back to the VIP section, and Aaron leaves us. Before he goes, he tells us that if during the show, we wanna sit in the center where the soundboard is, we can do that, so i'm like, TIIGHT! We find our seats, which are row J, right in the center. Journey starts playing, and the first set is mostly instumentals. We decide to leave our seats and walk around to a private section where we can watch the concert, and be away from everyone else...IT ROCKED. When the second set started, we went to the soundboard, and sat there, and had a perfect view of the entire stage. Really amazing.
We wait to hear "wheel in the sky" cause i love that song. Then we walk around again. We go to get into the VIP, and find out, its locked, so we jump the fence, and sit and watch the rest of the show. Then we walk all the way down these ramps, and get to the side of the stage. We flash our VIP passes, and they let us backstage, while the show is still going on. We get back into VIP, and we sit outside, waiting for the show to end, so we can talk to Aaron more about him and his partner managing us. He tells us to walk to yet another VIP area. There is a meet n greet scheduled for about 125 people. So we talk to Aaron some more, then he takes us down to where his parntner is, on the steps we meet, yet again, NEIL SchON! He asks how we've been, blah blah. Then we say hello to the bassist. Then Dean comes down, and he's hilarious, saying how he doesnt wanna go to meet all those people. It was COOl. so then we see the keyboardist, and he just looks kinda pissed, though he's carrying a whole bunch of roses. We says Hi to him. We go back into the trailer with T.J.(aarons parnter) he discusses what the deal is. Basically, they are starting a managing company, with just 3 acts(us included). They are gonna have a day off next thursday, so we are gonna meet with them both, and talk it over more.We get a bag of journey tee shirts :) After that, we go back up to VIP to say goodbye and thanks to Aaron. We all shake hands, and We leave the place. BEST NIGHT OF MY LIFE PEOPLE. BEST NIGHT EVER.....
we get lost on the way home, but its all good, cause an hour later we arent lost anymore and we got hot chocolate, chocolate chip muffins, and hotdogs from Wawa. Its 3:31 in the morning and i still feel the adrenaline rushing. I have to wake up in 4 hours to go to the horror convention!.....So goodbye!
